From October 20 to 23, several hands-on workshops will be offered to teach participants about the living shoreline approach and how they can replicate these techniques at home.

Here are a few examples of the structures that will be installed on the site:

Wattle Fence
A wattle fence is made by weaving branches between stakes driven into the ground.

Hugelkultur Berm
This technique uses branches covered with organic materials such as leaves and soil to create a raised berm.

Vegetated Groyne
A vegetated groyne is a structure built perpendicular to the shoreline to help reduce erosion. It uses locally sourced live vegetation to help stabilize the shoreline.

Live Willow Stakes
Live willow stakes are willow branches inserted directly into the shoreline to help reduce erosion and stabilize the bank.

Burlap Bag Technique
This technique is used for planting on a rock wall. The burlap helps retain soil and protect the roots. Over time, the burlap decomposes and the roots spread into the rock wall.
